The Penguins had played a great 1-1 hockey game through 2 periods and then came the elbow heard throughout Pittsburgh from Matt Cooke as he layed out Ryan McDonagh which resulted in a 5-minute major and an automatic ejection. All went well for the first 3 minutes of the major which resulted in a short handed goal from Chris Kunitz then, then the groove the Pens were in killing the penalty came to a halt when Niskanen took a 4-minute major high sticking penalty that gave the Rangers an extended 5-on-3 power play in which the Pens were able to kill down to 8 seconds when the Rangers struck with a game tying power play goal from Gaborik, to be followed by a 5-on-4 goal from Ryan Callahan giving the Rangers a 1 goal lead that the Penguins could never overcome.

There was hope when McDonagh took a roughing penalty for hititng Letang in the face, but all was to lost when the Pens were unable to convert and broke down at the end of the PP to allow McDonagh to come out of the box and hook up Derek Stepan with a wrister to seal the game. The Rangers would go on to score an empty netter at the end. You can see the highlights/lowlights here . The Penguins travel to Detroit to take on the Red Wings Monday night.
