The game started out as a Pens blow out win with the Penguins jumping to a 4-0 lead with goals from [Dupuis(2), Kennedy, and Kunitz] in the first 38 minutes of the game before they almost self destructed. The Red Wings were able to break the shutout with 2-minutes left in the second on a goal from Zetterberg and had a near meltdown in the third allowing not one but two power play goals in the third. For a while in the thrid Brent Johnson started to look a little shaky, I mean who wouldn't after allowing 3 goals in a short period of time, but he managed to make some key save to force the game into overtime and allow the Pens to steal a point they probably didn't deserve after they failed to show up for the third period.

Overtime was pretty lame until TK launched a slapper from the redline towards MacDonald that deflected off his pads straight up into the air and almost gave the Pens a chance to avoid the shootout, but the bouncing puck was not still enough for Kennedy to corral it and get a good shot off. The shootout came down to the very last shooter in James Neal who came down the center of the ice and slapped one past Joey MacDonald to steal another point for the Penguins and move them 3 points ahead of Tampa Bay.
