This almost became a trap game for the Penguins as the Panthers came in long since eliminated from the playoffs with nothing but pride to play for, and the Pens barely showed up to play. For most of the game it appeared as if Marc-Andre Fleury was the only player whom realized the game started at 1pm today. Flower stood and only allowed 1 goal which was a blaster on 38 shots.
The Penguins were simply outplayed for 57 minutes of this game, but managed to be able to keep themselves in the game with outstanding play from MAF and force an overtime period where they managed to put some heat on a fresh goaltender Scott Clemmensen whom came in for relief of Tomas Vokoun who had to leave the game to take a dump or something no one really knows. New Penguins shootout masters Alexei Kovalev and James Neal came up big in the shootout and sealed the deal and the extra point for the Penguins moving them within 2 points of the Flyers and first place in the east.
The Pens play next on Tuesday at home against the Flyers with first place in the division up for grabs, since Philly was dropped by Boston today 2-1.
The Three Stars of the Game were:
- Marc-Andre Fleury
- Alexei Kovalev
- Ben Lovejoy
