Game 1 was all you could have imagined and more. The game was scoreless for the better part of 46 minutes before James Neal found a wide open Alexei Kovalev for the games first goal and the flood gates open as no more 15 seconds later Arron Asham went end-to-end and gave the Penguins a 2-0 lead with a wrap around on Roloson. This would be all the Penguins needed to deflate the Lightning, Tampa Bay put on a little pressure towards the end with the goalie pulled, but Chris Kunitz was able to bury one in the empty net and allow the Penguins to run out the clock giving the Pens the win and Fleury the shutout his 5th playoff shutout of his carreer and just one behind Tom Barrasso who has 6.
The game was not without its controversy as Michalek had 2 back-to-back high sticks that were not called one busting up St. Louis pretty bad. Overall the Penguins played a solid game especially MAF who made some incredible saves to keep Tampa off the board until the Pens could shake the jitters and get to playoff hockey. After coming out and allowing the Lightning to dictate the game for the better part of the first period the Pens were able to turn things around and put things in their favor.
The Penguins and Lightning play next on Friday night in Game 2, which everyone will tell you over the next couple days how important this game is, as momentum is everything and allowing the Lightning to steal a win on Friday would give them the advantage as the series moves to Tampa Bay.
