The Penguins hosted the Eastern Conference leading Boston Bruins at the igloo last night and it looked to be a pretty exciting game for the first 25 minutes of the game. The first period the Penguins held tough and looked to be coming out of their current slump, this only lasted the first period however.
The game started out looking like the Penguins were back on track and ready to take it to the Eastern Conference leader. Pens scored that ever important first goal in the first period to go into the first intermission with a 1-0 goal lead on the Bruins. Both teams moved the puck pretty well generating scoring chances against two of the top goalies in the east.
About 5 minutes into the period is when shit hit the fan in this one. The Bruins jumped on the board with a powerplay goal from a lame Brooks Orpik interference penalty. And then again on a Max Talbot roughing penalty 4 minutes later giving the Bruins a 2-1 lead half way thru the second. The Pens tied things up with a Dupuis slapper at the 15 minute mark but after this it was all Boston as they added another tally from Phil Kessel 40 seconds later to make it 3-2 Bruins.
The third began pretty much the same way the second ended with the Bruins dominating the Pens especially after deflating shorthanded goal from Martin St. Pierre to put the visiting Bruins up 4-2 and seeminly out of reach. This then lead to another Bruins goal 4 minutes later which would prove to be the final one in this contest and sealed the win for the Boston Bruins.
The Pens take on the Bruins in Boston on New Year's Day night at 7:00pm.
