The game started much like it left off on February 11th, after Rupp put the Penguins up 1-0 9 minutes into the game. Godard tried to go toe-to-toe with Gillies again and got whooped on for a little before skating away. Twelve seconds later Haley took a run at Deryk Engellands legs throwing him into the air this would then be followed by Asham and Konopka hugging it out at center ice for a few minutes. Play resumed normally for a few minutes be John Tavares took a dive when Brooks Orpik touched him, this gave the Islanders Brooks was none to happy and had a unsportman like added on to give the Islanders a 4-minute power play which the Pens killed off.
The game calmed down in the second, the fighting ceased and the Penguins failed to convert on another power play at the beginning of the period. But as luck would have it the Pens would find themselves once again on the power play 11 minutes into the period which allowed Big Z Michalek to put the Pens up with a slap shot from the point and a power play goal. After this things became a little uneasy in Pittsburgh as Comeau tipped one in towards the end of the period to cut the Penguins lead in half going into the second intermission.
The Islanders tied things up on the power play 8-minutes into the 3rd when Tavares was able to lure the entire team to one side of the ice leaving Comeau wide open for the goal. The tie was short lived as Mark Letestu came storming down taking a pass from Mike Rupp and snapping it past Montoya. As we all let out a sigh of relief, but as luck would have it once again Max Talbot gets caught with a hold giving the Islanders the man advantage which they would turn into a 2-man advantage. The Pens were able to kill off the power play missing the empty net several times in the process, but Letang would put a slight screen on the Flower as the Penguins were just getting back to full strength and time was winding down to allow Travis Harmonic to snap one by and tie the game.
Overtime was pretty blah there were only 4 shots taken, most of the time was spent skating in circles to avoid the opponent. With Neal leaving the ice in the second with some sort of hand injury things were uncertain going into the shootout without Mr. Automatic at our disposal but Kunitz would take the extra point as the third shooter when he buried behind Montoya.
