Anyone who listens to the talk shows has heard a few calls for Alexei Kovalev to take Wednesday night off, and enjoy it from the press box. And then comes the ridiculous statements about how Mike Comrie would be more productive with the same ice time. These people have obviously never bothered watching Mike Comrie play hockey in the last 3 years, but that's not the point here.
What the pens need tonight, is more people with ice water in their veins, who don't panic (How's things going tonight Mr Conner?), and who wait for their opportunities. There is no one better at that than Kovy, as long as those opportunities present themselves (Calling Dr Neal).
While dressing Eric Tangradi to stand in front of Dwayne Roloson, who likely can't actually see the shots coming from the point anyways, is a good idea, it shouldn't come at the expense of sitting the one player on the payroll who can change the outcome of the game.
Watching Kovy throughout the years, one realizes he tolerates the regular season for nights like tonight, both when he was 18, and now 20 years later. Prove us right Kovy!
